Stress & illness

This page contains information explaining the links between stress and illness. When we live in a high-stress state it takes a toll on our physical, emotional, and mental health. When we live in a state of fight, flight, or freeze our nervous system is focused on surviving the threats, not on being healthy. Our immune response, our digestive system, and our reproductive system all suffer as the body’s attention is taken off these to focus on surviving the perceived life threat we are facing.

This is a good biological design if the stress we are facing is an actual life threat that we can outrun or fight off. If it is an immediate, short-term situation that we can make it through and survive, our body is designed to then relax, heal, and come back into balance. However, if we feel constantly under threat, if we have negative beliefs and expectations about life and are regularly stressed then our body doesn’t get the chance to balance up and heal.

We need to release the stress, tension, and trauma. We need to reprogram our subconscious beliefs to be supportive not sabotaging.

If you believe that life is out to get you, that the world is a dangerous place or that you are sick or will get cancer, then these negative beliefs alter how your body works. These beliefs can be changed, your subconscious mind reprogrammed so that you believe I am well. life is working out well for me. I am supported and cared for. Everything I need comes to me easily. With these positive beliefs, your body relaxes, breathes a sigh of relief, and opens up to receive goodness.

This page includes videos of authors in the field of trauma healing, health manifestation, and conscious belief reprogramming. They show how the state of our mind and nervous system impacts our well-being and ways to shift these states to be more supportive of health and a harmonious life experience.

There are many ways to release stress and calm your body and nervous system. Some people do yoga, and meditation, spend time in nature, have baths, and playtime with kids or pets. There are lots of little things you can do to create more health and relaxation. For me, one of the most powerful ways I have found to release stress, tension, and trauma from my body is through Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). It helps to complete the unfinished fight, flight, and freeze responses. It helps to clear out the trauma so that my body knows it happened back then not now. TRE can be done at home by yourself once you have learned how. Just a couple of sessions with a practitioner (like me) is enough to get you started and you can then use it for the rest of your life. There’s even a free self-study online course you can do. To learn more visit the TRE page of my website.

To reprogram subconscious beliefs so they are no longer sabotaging your health and well-being you can repeat affirmations often enough that they become habituated. You can listen to audio recordings as you go to sleep. You can use Psych-K (my favourite way), hypnosis, and other energy medicine modalities that reprogram the subconscious mind. To find out more see the Psych-K page of my website. I am putting together an online course on reprogramming subconscious beliefs but it will be a while longer before it is ready.

Reprogramming your negative beliefs, and releasing the stress, tension, and trauma in your body will greatly improve the ability of your body to heal and maintain well-being, as will eating nutritiously and exercising moderately. There is a lot you can do to support yourself to be healthy and well.
